The airline alliance Oneworld has launched a free tool to help travelers combat jet lag during international trips by teaming up with Timeshifter, the world’s most widely used jet lag app with over 1.7 million downloads. Customers booking global flights through oneworld.com will now get a complimentary subscription that covers their entire journey, including every time zone change from departure to return.
Roger Blackburn, Oneworld’s vice president of loyalty and commercial activities, stated the collaboration helps passengers arrive refreshed and prepared. “Jet lag impacts health and performance,” he explained. “This allows us to enhance the travel experience from start to finish.”
Timeshifter applies research on circadian rhythms to create personalized recommendations based on each traveler’s route and sleep patterns. Its reliability is backed by trust from Formula 1 teams and astronauts.
Mickey Beyer-Clausen, Timeshifter’s CEO, described the partnership as an opportunity to bring science-based solutions to commercial aviation. “Airlines have improved nearly every aspect of flying—except how time zone shifts affect passengers,” he said.

Jet lag occurs when a person’s internal clock conflicts with local time. The body typically adjusts at a rate of about one hour per day, but rapid time zone changes disrupt natural light exposure patterns, worsening discomfort.
The app’s system generates tailored light exposure schedules to realign internal clocks more efficiently. By integrating with Oneworld flights, it provides customized advice without extra charges.
Many travelers overlook jet lag until symptoms emerge, but this initiative signals a broader change in the industry. Airlines have historically prioritized in-flight comfort—such as seating, dining, and entertainment, but rarely addressed the biological effects of crossing time zones. This move represents one of the first efforts to treat jet lag as a manageable issue rather than an inevitable annoyance.
A 2023 study revealed that 68% of long-haul passengers experienced fatigue within 24 hours of landing, with 40% struggling for three days or longer. Timeshifter’s method targets the core problem, circadian misalignment, rather than simply covering up symptoms.

The app’s effectiveness with elite athletes and astronauts demonstrates its value under demanding conditions. For Oneworld’s frequent travelers, who often cross five or more time zones in a single trip, the partnership could cut recovery time by half, according to both companies.
Timeshifter’s algorithm adjusts for individual sleep schedules, ensuring recommendations remain practical for both night owls and early risers. The tool also accounts for flight duration and direction, which influence how quickly the body adapts to new time zones.
Beyond physical discomfort, jet lag can impair cognitive function and productivity. The partnership aims to mitigate these effects by aligning travelers’ internal clocks with their destinations more efficiently than traditional methods.
Oneworld’s decision to offer the service reflects a growing recognition that passenger well-being extends beyond the aircraft. By addressing jet lag proactively, the alliance sets a precedent for other carriers to consider similar solutions in the future.
