Air Canada intends to begin regular flights to Ho Chi Minh City in 2027 after the Canada-Vietnam Air Transport Agreement is expanded. The carrier will coordinate with the appropriate authorities to secure required approvals and complete the procedures.
The Government of Canada announced an expanded Air Transport Agreement between Canada and Vietnam. This development marks a step toward opening scheduled commercial air service between the two countries.
Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer and President, Cargo at Air Canada, said: “Vietnam is an important market in the broader Canada-Southeast Asia relationship. We welcome this expanded Air Transport Agreement and look forward to obtaining the necessary government approvals to begin service to Ho Chi Minh City”.

The Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade for the Government of Canada, noted that Vietnam is one of Canada’s most significant trading partners in Southeast Asia, with exports reaching over $1.3 billion in 2025. The expanded air transport agreement is expected to make it easier for people and goods to move between the countries.
Meghan Pritchard, Executive Director of the Canada-ASEAN Business Council, welcomed Air Canada’s intention to launch scheduled service to Ho Chi Minh City, stating that direct air connectivity would strengthen commercial ties and support tourism and investment.
Meghan Pritchard believes that direct air connectivity will have a positive impact on the economy. She expects it to attract more investment and tourism to the region, which will be beneficial for both countries.
