BCD Travel has integrated sustainability into its business travel booking system through Tripsource, a platform that now delivers real-time emissions data and sustainability recommendations during the reservation process. This change allows companies to align travel decisions with their environmental commitments before finalizing bookings, rather than tracking emissions afterward.
The platform provides travelers, travel arrangers, and consultants with emissions metrics and eco-friendly alternatives at the point of selection. Companies can also incorporate CO₂ surcharges into the booking workflow, linking financial incentives to sustainable options such as alternative fuels or climate initiatives. AI-driven analytics within Tripsource measure progress and offer insights to help businesses refine their travel programs against sustainability targets.
A survey conducted by BCD among travel managers and procurement teams revealed that more than half (56%) view advanced technology, including booking tools, as essential for cutting business travel emissions. However, 31% of employees report that no emissions data is available when booking flights, despite over half claiming their employers encourage sustainable travel. Tripsource resolves this by embedding transparency directly into existing booking tools.
Travel managers face the challenge of balancing costs, policy compliance, employee satisfaction, and sustainability while making quick decisions. Tripsource streamlines this by displaying emissions data and hotel sustainability ratings in real time within the booking interface. This integration ensures environmental impact is considered alongside other priorities without disrupting workflows.
For businesses, the booking stage represents the most effective opportunity to promote greener travel. Tripsource delivers sustainability data at the moment of decision-making, enabling companies to monitor and document emissions reductions. The platform consolidates emissions tracking, transparency, and direct actions, such as CO₂ offsets or sustainable fuel choices, into a unified process.
“Clients expect sustainability to be fully integrated into their travel programs,” stated Fabio Fornari, Senior Sustainability Director at BCD. “They do not want it treated as an add-on but need it embedded seamlessly alongside cost management, policy adherence, and traveler experience. Our solution connects emissions data, decision support, and practical steps within the tools they already use.”
Heather Wright, Vice President of Product Marketing at BCD, emphasized that sustainability information should require minimal extra effort. “Travelers should not need to search for or interpret emissions data independently,” she explained. “Tripsource incorporates these details into the familiar booking process, converting corporate sustainability commitments into consistent, measurable outcomes.”
