Hilton now offers an optional Clean Energy Prototype for its Home2 Suites brand, integrating all-electric infrastructure, renewable power sources and high-efficiency features aimed at lowering hotel operating expenses and carbon output. The design satisfies the stringent environmental zero-operational-emissions rigorous criteria defined by the World Green Building Council.
This turnkey prototype marks Hilton’s first hotel design aimed at achieving zero operational emissions while being offered broadly to owners and developers. Created to align with Hilton’s Travel with Purpose strategy, it represents a significant step toward sustainable hospitality development.
Clean Energy Prototype Features
According to the American Hotel & Lodging Association, utility costs for U.S. hotels have climbed by 28% over the last five years. Hilton crafted this new design to address rising operational expenses, shifting energy markets, and growing interest from investors in scalable methods to cut down energy usage.
Modeling suggests cost savings ahead, with the Clean Energy Prototype projected to boost energy efficiency by roughly 30% and trim yearly energy bills by 18% to 40% versus a standard Home2 Suites model powered by traditional sources.
Reducing Carbon Emissions
The analysis further estimates a possible drop of 440 metric tons in operational carbon output, subject to local conditions, and Hilton notes the design may enhance property worth. The prototype integrates fully electric infrastructure, both local and remote renewable power sources, and improved insulation.
Hilton currently has more than 9,400 hotels operating worldwide and said the development forms part of its broader approach to improving hotel resilience and resource efficiency through property design, operational practices and technology.

“At Hilton, we know that sustainability solutions are most impactful when they are scalable, practical and make strong business sense to help power the future of responsible travel,” said Jean Garris Hand, Vice President and Global Head, Sustainability & Responsible Business, Hilton.
Home2 Suites Expansion
As the extended-stay brand has grown, Home2 Suites has embedded various eco-friendly features into its layouts, including efficient construction methods, water-saving landscaping, ENERGY STAR-certified equipment, saline pools, reusable dining supplies, and LED lighting.
Talene Staab, brand leader, Home2 Suites by Hilton, said: “Since its launch, Home2 Suites has been built on a foundation of innovation, efficient solutions and flexible design. That innovative spirit remains at the core of the brand today, shaping everything from our flexible prototype and operational efficiencies to the amenities and experiences designed for extended stay travelers. This optional prototype represents the natural next step in that commitment. As the brand continues to grow across the country, Home2 Suites gives Hilton a powerful platform and opportunity to lead a forward-looking solution that can help owners reduce energy use and operating costs at scale, while continuing to deliver the reliable, extended stay experience guests know and love.”
Energy Procurement Support
Outside the Clean Energy Prototype, Hilton is evaluating how similar solutions could be applied across different markets, operating environments and ownership requirements. The company’s procurement division, Hilton Supply Management, operates an energy procurement programme designed to help hotels manage energy costs, improve budget predictability and assess renewable and lower-carbon energy options where available.
The Home2 Suites Clean Energy Prototype is optional for US owners and developers and is designed to provide a standardised route to incorporating all-electric systems, renewable energy and higher-efficiency building technologies into new hotel projects.
